Today is Mothers Day in Australia.
We originally had plans to go for lunch at flight friends but unfortunately illnesses got in the way so it had to be postponed at the last minute.
Husb who was in the mood for a bit of fresh air and exercise apparently, decided that instead of having a nice easy pampering Mothers Day, as was the original plan. We would not be wasting the day and would instead go up to the Dandenong Ranges for a ‘bit of a chill out’.
. . .At least that is how it was sold to me.
Now that we have returned from our ‘chilled day’ I realise that I was mis-sold the whole thing, having been together for the best part of 15 years, you’d think I would know better by now. You’d think!
Husb caught me in a moment of weakness – when I was still in bed and I was silly enough to agree so that he would go away and I would get a few more minutes precious Mothers Day snoozing time.
Now I don’t know about you but my idea of a chilled day does not include a 2.5km almost vertical hike up the 1000 steps Kokoda memorial trail in the Dandenong Ranges National Park. Clearly the Bear was not on board with the idea either as he whined his way halfway up the Lyrebird Track and then moaned his way back down again.
Yep – we were losers and didn’t get the whole way up before husb admitted defeat and came back down with us. (At one point he was seriously considering going the rest of the way up to the top on his own – while I negotiated the Bear on the way down) – On Mothers Day!!! My face must have said it all though and he quickly abandoned that idea in favour of coming back down to the bottom to eat our picnic.
Picnic eaten we then headed over to SkyHigh at Mount Dandenong. It wasn’t the best day for views but we did still manage to see pretty far, I bet the views would be amazing on a clear day.
Skyhigh has quite a bit going on, it has a lovely looking bistro, which was packed to the rafters with it being Mothers Day. There is also a garden maze, secret garden and English Gardens. I don’t know if it was because it was Mothers Day but the place was absolutely teeming with people so it was quite difficult to have a look at the views properly. Perhaps if we’d gone in the week it may have been quieter.
So I am now back home comfortably settled on the sofa (with slightly aching limbs), waiting for some actual Mothers Day pampering.
